Synology DS223: the sleep NAS if you do not need Plus
Two bays, DSM, and a quiet night. The Plus tax buys a Celeron, dual LAN, and a RAM lid. Skip that if Hyper Backup and Photos are the whole job. Skip the j either way.

Skip this chassis the day you want Container Manager, VMM, or 2.5G; that is Plus or a UGREEN, not Value. Skip leftover desktop HDDs in SHR. Skip using the single 1GbE as a VM datastore. Two bays is not a media library that grows for a decade — if you already know you want four, DS423+ or the DXP2800 2-bay with 2.5G.
