Managed vs unmanaged 2.5G: when VLANs are worth the tax
Unmanaged unless you already know you need VLANs. The tax is real. So is an IoT VLAN, a trunk to a firewall, or LACP to a NAS.
Decision tree, not a religion. Easy-smart (Netgear Plus) is VLANs without a controller. Web-smart (TRENDnet TEG-3102WS) is a browser. Omada L2+ is the app / SDN hop. MikroTik is dual-boot SwOS / RouterOS and a fan. Unmanaged plus Netgear Plus plus TEG-3102WS plus SG3210X-M2 are fanless. CRS310 is 1 fan, 21 W without attachments / 34 W max. None of the rows below are PoE except as noted on other posts.
