Run a quiet 10G closet lab without the noise and depth of a used Dell R630. The MS-01 is the small retail box built for that job.
This is not another N100 shopping list. Dual 10G SFP+, dual 2.5G, USB4, three M.2, laptop-class Intel 12th/13th-gen (i5-12600H / i9-12900H / i9-13900H). Small chassis fan. Not a 1U PSU scream. jdhodges.com (Proxmox, 2026) logged idle 13–35 W. Contrast an R630-class idle around 70 W typical and 80–150 W once you add a second CPU, drives, and default fans. Maker list starts $439.90 for the i5-12600H barebone. Configured 32 GB / 1 TB i9-13900H: jdhodges.com paid $1,016.58 at Newegg on 8 Feb 2026; Amazon same config ~$1,015.90 as of 5 Apr 2026. NAS Compares (1 Oct 2025) Amazon band $599–879. No used R630 street price here; I didn't measure one.

Skip
Skip the used Dell PowerEdge R630 / R640 as the closet host. Skip treating Amazon Renewed or a gray 1U as “the same ports, cheaper.” Form factor lives in 1U vs pizza box. The electric-bill sibling is N150 vs the 1U bill if you don't need 10G on the node itself.
