Dual-NIC living-room vs 4× 2.5G appliance
HDMI-on-the-TV box with one or two NICs vs aluminum 4-port. A USB 2.5G dongle is usually a worse idea than buying the appliance once.

Buy dual-LAN if the box is also the TV node and you only need WAN + LAN. Buy 4-NIC if you will isolate IoT / lab / WAN without a USB dongle. USB 2.5G NICs drop, reset, and fight suspend. They are a weekend, not a closet plan.

Skip a USB 2.5G dongle as the “fourth port.” Skip AliExpress-only Topton. Skip sold-out Minisforum MS-01 / UN100L as hero buys. Skip 8 GB soldered traps. If you need 10G SFP+ on N-class silicon that still ships, VP2440e — N150 will not saturate two 10G links with IDS.
